Could anyone point me towards a reference where I could find out the number
of cathedral cities in Europe?
Thanks for listening.

Here are the cathedrals of England and Wales as a starter:

Well, it's a tricky question. While it's relatively easy to find a list of
cathedrals for the dominant denomination in each country, other churches
with separate jurisdiction may have cathedrals - bishop's seats. In UK, you
have Anglican, RC and various Orthodox churches including uniate. In
Holland, you have RC and Old Catholic cathedrals.
For RC list, see
http://www.catholic-hierarchy.org/ or
http://www.katolsk.no/utenriks/index_en.htm. Anglican outside UK has
pro-cathedrals in Brussels, Malta and Gibraltar, plus American (ECUSA)
cathedral in Paris. Plus Orthodox cathedrals - numerous in Greece and
Eastern Europe, and main cities in Western Europe.
