Google says there were wolves in ancient Israel and
that there are a few Arabian wolves in Israel today.

What instances do you know of of "wolf" or "wolves"
in the bible? Or if you like, point me to an
online bible that can be searched.

As pastoralists, the Jews were not keen on wolves, which are always
mentioned in negative contexts as threats and symbols of fierceness. The
only positive is when the New Earth is described as being a place where
"the wolf shall dwell with the lamb".

I submit that the most memorable biblical-literary allusion to wolves is
outside the bible:

The Assyrian came down like the wolf on the fold,
And his cohorts were gleaming in purple and gold;
And the sheen of their spears was like stars on the sea,
When the blue wave rolls nightly on deep Galilee.

Thanks for that, Madhu. It is certainly a most memorable analogy.

Not quite a wolf but a similarly dolichocephalic canid is the canaan dog

I don't recall any reference to "pariah" dogs in the Bible and in any
case, I always thought that "pariah" was not any particular breed but a
glorious mix of any and every breed. The chief characteristic of a
pariah dog is that it has no owner and is detested by all, but lives by
its wits, scavenging and fighting round rubbish dumps, butchers' shops, etc.

They are the chief carriers of rabies in India (and possibly elsewhere),
so perhaps our friend should not be so quick to claim Jewish status for
them.

I note you haven't responded to any of the answers given.

Why do you ask?

My own quick search reveals:
Genesis 49:27
“Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; in the morning he devours the prey, in the
evening he divides the plunder.”

Isaiah 11:6
The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the
goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little
child will lead them.

Isaiah 65:25
The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw
like the ox, and dust will be the serpent’s food. They will neither harm
nor destroy on all my holy mountain,” says the Lord.

Jeremiah 5:6
Therefore a lion from the forest will attack them, a wolf from the
desert will ravage them, a leopard will lie in wait near their towns to
tear to pieces any who venture out, for their rebellion is great and
their backslidings many.

John 10:12
The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when
he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the
wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.

I was looking for references to wolves in religion, mythology, and
folklore around the time of the Wolf Full Moon of January.

Also I identify with the wolf in Sarah McLachlan’s song
Monsters, though I am not claiming to be the Lamb
as the song might indicate, just similar to him.

Which the Bible doesn't have.

Thanks! I've little to contribute, I'm afraid. Other than to say I don't
think you'll find much in the Bible:-

Genesis 49:27
“Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; in the morning he devours the prey, in the
evening he divides the plunder.”

Isaiah 11:6
The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the
goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little

Isaiah 65:25
The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw

Jeremiah 5:6
Therefore a lion from the forest will attack them, a wolf from the
desert will ravage them, a leopard will lie in wait near their towns to
tear to pieces any who venture out, for their rebellion is great and
their backslidings many.

Ezekiel 22:27
Her officials within her are like wolves tearing their prey; they shed
blood and kill people to make unjust gain.

Habakkuk 1:8
Their horses are swifter than leopards, fiercer than wolves at dusk.
Their cavalry gallops headlong; their horsemen come from afar. They fly
like an eagle swooping to devour;

Zephaniah 3:3
Her officials within her are roaring lions; her rulers are evening
wolves, who leave nothing for the morning.

Matthew 7:15
“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but
inwardly they are ferocious wolves.

Matthew 10:16
“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as
snakes and as innocent as doves.

Luke 10:3
Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.

John 10:12
The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when
he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the
wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.

Acts 20:29
I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will
not spare the flock.

Thanks, Mike. Perhaps Sarah McLachlan was referring to Matthew 7:15.
